☑ HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE BY TAKING IT EASY

One of the saddest pitfalls inexperienced entrepreneurs fall into upon setting up their first business is becoming enslaved by the business they created. Not unlike the fabled Frankenstein who turned on its master, your own business could very well turn out to be your private hell if you allow business concerns to eat up the more important stuff that makes life worth living. This is especially true when your lifetime’s worth of savings is on the line and business is not turning out the way you fantasized it would be.

WHAT NOT TO DO
Before even thinking about setting up a business, it helps that an entrepreneur has defined his financial boundaries. As a rule, an entrepreneur must never bite off more than he can chew. Entrepreneurs must know discipline. It is financial suicide to commit one’s entire savings in any business venture even if it happens to be the “most promising” type --- and there is no such type. Never suffer the misconception that business is the same as gambling. Gambling is a game of reckless risk-taking against huge odds. The wild ride through thrill and trepidation is part of the enjoyment and curse. Business, however, is more about managing risks rather than outright risk-taking.

A BALANCED LIFE
Success in any endeavor never comes easy. A new entrepreneur must be prepared for the long haul. Aside from respecting his financial boundaries, he must also respect his emotional and physical borders. He must take time to relax and spend time with his loved ones, even if, or especially when, business is not particularly good.

GET YOURSELF “RECHARGED”
Business problems rarely disappear out of their own accord. But turning your mind away from business problems would often inspire you to discover creative ways of solving them. Here are a few tips for getting recharged:

  1. Take up a hobby
  2. Cut back on your work hours
  3. Take vacations
  4. Start a personal journal.

BEING YOUR OWN EMPLOYEE
Being your own boss also means being your own employee. If being the boss you give yourself enough time to recharge, then as an employee, give it best during work hours. Set yourself a limited time for work and respect it. Don’t go beyond your normal work hours unless it’s an absolute must. Working overtime for yourself also means getting entitled to a few extra incentives right? Learning to treat yourself well will go a long way towards ensuring your long-term success.
